It's best to consider all options before getting a pet

When you have children inevitably they will beg you for a pet, even more so if they are intent on growing up and getting one of the many different jobs for vets. Of course you want to make your children happy but it may be hard to decide which pet would be perfect for your family. You want to think long and hard about what you want to get before jumping into an obligation that may not be a good fit.

If you have a very busy life it may be best for you to get a fish or a bird for your family. Fish are not high maintenance and are very calming to watch. Their tank will need to be cleaned about once a month and they need to be fed daily but other than that there is not much more maintenance they require. A bird has very simple maintenance needs as well. They require being fed daily and their cages cleaned out about once a week.

If your family has time to spend with pets then a dog or a cat may be great for your family. A dog requires plenty of attention. It will want to be played with on a daily basis. It of course will need to be fed daily and be bathed regularly. A dog will also need to have access to the outside throughout the day to use a restroom. If you are thinking about getting an indoor dog and no one is home throughout the day you may want to consider the cost of a doggie door.

If a dog sounds like too much maintenance for your family and a fish or a bird do not should like enough interaction then maybe a cat is perfect. A cat can be left inside all day while everyone is gone from the house. They can use the restroom in a litter box that can be emptied. No matter what pet you choose it will bring great joy to your family.
